The Ngurratjuta Art Centre was established in 2003 to provide a place for Western Arrarnte Artists to paint, learn new techniques and share ideas.

Many of Ngurratjuta's artists paint in their own homes located on remote communities.  The artists are always welcome to paint on site at the Art Centre and at any given time there are between five and twenty town-based artists painting on site.  The Art Centre is located a short distance from the centre of Alice Springs (approximately 15 minute walk) and is open to visitors.

Located in the heart of Chinatown in Broome, the gallery is housed in an old historic building (over 100 years) and is the last remaining house with a wind tunnel. The gallery has been operating since 1998, and houses a comprehensive collection of indigenous contemporary artworks, presenting artists from all over Australia.

The gallery seeks to educate and proudly show the stylistic diversity of the different cultures which make up the Kimberley and Australia. From the saltwater to the freshwater, to the desert people, Short St. offers a glimpse at the extremely sophisticated dynamic landscape which is Australian art.
